Houston Bank Exits

Incoming FT analyst at top Houston Bank and was wondering what exits have been looking like if I want to stay in energy. How have the analysts at top banks placed? Ideally want to move outside Houston to MF Infra/Industrials/etc. Does anyone have any advice?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, analysts at top Houston banks, especially those with strong exposure to M&A and Restructuring, often find themselves well-positioned for energy-focused exits. The majority of exits tend to stay within the energy and power industry, with many analysts moving into Oil & Gas (O&G) and Infrastructure Private Equity (PE) funds. However, transitioning to broader MF Infra or Industrials roles outside Houston is possible but may require proactive networking and positioning.

Here are some actionable tips: 1. Leverage Your Deal Experience: Highlight your M&A and Restructuring exposure, as these are highly valued in PE and Infra roles. 2. Network Strategically: Build connections with recruiters and professionals in MF Infra/Industrials PE firms. Networking with current associates or VPs in your target firms can provide insights and opportunities. 3. Broaden Your Skillset: While energy expertise is a strength, showcasing versatility in other sectors can make you a more attractive candidate for roles outside Houston. 4. Consider Location Preferences: If you're targeting roles outside Houston, be clear about your willingness to relocate and tailor your applications accordingly.

While the majority of exits are energy-focused, analysts who are proactive and strategic in their approach have successfully transitioned to broader roles in MF Infra and Industrials.
