Houston IB Internship
Recently accepted to a top 30 USNWR national university. The recruiting for this school is primary concentrated on Charlotte and Atlanta. I am very intersted in oil banking and its above street compensation, so how do I approach Houston IB banking recruiting, internships, and full time positions from the get go when I enroll next fall.
Maybe theaccountingmajor can help
Find junior people on LinkedIn. Reach out to them to establish a dialogue. Visit Houston a couple times and get coffees with whoever you can connect with.
Ok, I got you. Should I be doing this from freshman year or should I wait a little bit? I don't want them to think I am a try-hard desperate kid. Just want to demonstrate interest and push my resume through.
Somewhere in between second semester of freshman year or the summer between freshman and sophomore year,
FYI: the school that I am referring to is Wake Forest University
Wake Forest is actually 46 out of 50 top schools for IB according to this:

Wells Fargo and SunTrust get a lot from there. Its definitely a good school
Try to get internships in energy or finance your summer after freshman and sophomore years. I haven’t heard of any BBs or EBs here in Houston that have internships for anyone before their last summer between junior and senior year. But the people we look at for summer analyst positions all have other prior internship experiences. Maybe look at smaller energy companies, PWM, corporate finance, and smaller MM or boutique investment banks/PE funds.
Long story short- definitely need some internships (better if they are related to energy or finance), but likely won’t be at a legit bank until summer after junior year.
