How accurate is glassdoor for salary comparison?

I don't know how many of you are familiar with this website but it seems anyone can list a salary and see the salaries of others in the similar firm, industry, location, division, etc. Even so, I'm wondering how accurate this website is (perhaps within a few thousand?) or is it just totally arbitrary and offbase?

I have followed it for a year. Salary data is pretty good. Just be careful of when they aggregate salary data (ie 2007 pay might get lumped in with 2009 pay).

Beyond that, it's provided me with ammo going into interviews on what my salary expectations are. I am looking at a corp strat job (I'm 2 yrs out of banking) and I know I could ask up to $X b/c of the website and not get a flat out "no."

Some people get paid a lot less then one might expect, I've seen some salaries that scare me. And others that, well, motivate me. Keep in mind the number of people who post salaries is low, sometimes the salaries are fakes. Then again, careersinfinance.com tends to show generous salaries which I seem to be skeptical of to. (Verification or clarification might just make my day).
