How bad is it to decline a return offer after informally/verbally expressing that you'd be interested in coming back

Currently interning at a buy-side firm that gives returns. Signed IB SA for 2026. Had a few moments where people asked "would you want to come back next summer?/what are your plans for next summer?" and I genuinely considered taking a return if it was given so I mentioned I was interested in coming back. I ended up changing my mind and deciding to stick with my IB SA offer, but I was wondering how serious it is that I verbally expressed interest in coming back if I proceed to go somewhere else. (No signed contract)

Probably being paranoid but kind of worried if they'd try to get my SA offer pulled over this, or if the IB firm would pull if they knew I was considering reneging them. Also wondering how harmful this is reputationally.
