How do I know when I’m relying too heavily on ai for IB technicals? Or should I just avoid it?
First off, I'm teaching myself how to do Financial modeling using YouTube videos and online sources. I only ever used AI during technicals to explain hard concepts never to give me the answer, but I don't know if that ruins your brain from being analytical and relying on yourself? Do you think it's OK to use AI for questions here and there that I don't understand/breaking down complex concepts? Or should I just avoid it and try to figure things out on my own
A good example is when I'm Financial modeling on Excel. The YouTube video will say to do it one way but the company I'm modeling is formatted a little differently like you have to forecast operating lease right of use assets which no sources show you how to do.
I barely even know what ROU assets are let alone how to forecast fhem
Assuming you’re a student here — it sounds like you might want to take an accounting class or crash course. I found that to be more helpful than modeling related content when I was in your spot, as per what you said you don’t know what some of these balance sheet items are yet.
That is a good idea. I will actually look into it, thank you. I know the basics of the statements and most of the line items on them. It’s just some of these more complicated ones that aren’t standard statements line items.
Hmmm honestly I never was a big advocate for learning technicals by modeling or watching youtube videos. Maybe that is helpful if you literally have 0 finance background but i'd recommend walking through practice questions instead. start with easy ones and work your way up. if there is a really confusing concept on the way, then i'd use ai, but honestly nothing in finance is that complex
Any recs on what to use to study technicals? willing to spend money
I’m not the person that commented but for me, the 400 questions guide was the best way to prepare for interview questions. Understanding each topic rather than just memorizing the answer.
Building 3 statement financial models on excel from scratch is a great way to understand how the three statements connect and correspond.
Sorry if this is all very cliche but it is what helped me the most.
