How do you guys go about growing your hair out in a professional setting?

I've never tried growing my hair out but I want to. Meaning, I have no idea how it'll look - could look ridiculous, but I want to try. Anyone every grown their hair out while having a full time job, and if so, does the "awkward stage" of growth come off as unprofessional?

If you describe anything as 'awkward' then there's a good chance that it'll look unprofessional in an office setting.  That's not to say it'll be any more professional when it's even longer than the 'awkward' stage.  You could have beautiful David Beckham style hair but it falls down past your chin, then it's going to stick out.  Most people won't care, a few might so you take your chances.

How long are we talking? Most of the “awkward stage” when going from buzzcut/fade to normal long-ish hair can be managed by product and a blow drier
