How does Lunch Work?

Please don’t roast too hard for the dumb question and apologies in advance. But as someone WFH, how does lunch work in the office? Do most analyst and associates grab food from outside and bring it to their desk or do juniors pack a lunch?

Eating lunch out everyday is a bit expensive I feel like? Kinda would want to pack something but of course if I am the one odd guy out then I will definitely forgo that and get lunch out.

I also don’t know the exact layout of the office, so eating home food right next to someone could be annoying or smelly I feel like.

I imagine the middle of the day can get pretty hectic so do people tend to just go and grab lunch themselves whenever and eat alone at the desk or together?

Reason #152 of why WFH has continued to be so nice. I love just getting up whenever and chucking something into the microwave or oven.

The American salad is an absolute abomination. A restaurant or grocery store salad can easily reach 1000 cal with the amount of bullshit that we put in them. 80 calories in a tablespoon of Caesar salad dressing. Now think how much you put on a salad.

You go whenever you're free. Sometimes it's at 12 and you eat with a few other people, sometimes it's at 2 and you eat alone. People generally don't care what you get for lunch (as long as it doesn't stink up the place) so feel free to bring your own food. It also gets pretty common for people to have Seamless leftovers from the night before as lunch.

When I was an intern I would pack a small lunch sometimes and then order a large seamless dinner to compensate. I usually got super busy from 11-5ish so I never really had time to be too hungry which was nice. I believe most banks also have a cafeteria in the office so that's always an option too. The food might not be as nice as something you could make at home, but it's certainly cheaper than eating out.

When I interned I used the lunches as a way to hang out with the other analysts and associates on my desk.

Also I wouldn't worry about smell, people on the trading floor I was on would buy like pho or fried chicken and other strong smelling foods. I personally didn't mind because I like all sorts of foods and I don't think the other traders generally minded either.
