How does Morgan Stanley SA group placement work?

I'll be doing a summer analyst gig at Morgan Stanley, and I was hoping that some of you could help enlighten me with respect to how group placement works behind the scenes. Last week, I sent HR my top three choices, and like a champ I told them: 1. M&A 2. Sponsors 3. Real Estate. While I recognize that all three are probably going through some difficulties right about now, I still suspect that they are among the hardest to get placed in.

Thus, I'm wondering what is happening now. Is my resume circulating among the three areas that I listed, or will I just get placed randomly? Bear in mind that I have no contacts in the firm outside of the people I interviewed with. HR said that I'd most likely get one of my choices, but is that a promise you all think they'll ultimately be able to keep?
