How does Private Equity recruiting work in Texas?

I am a sophomore interested in working in Houston energy IB and was wondering how the recruiting process worked there. Do analysts get calls from headhunters or do they have to find opportunities themselves? What kind of funds do people go to? Megafunds? MM? And do the energy bankers end up in energy PE exclusively or can they do generalist PE?

What banks place well into PE (not necessarily energy in Houston, but in general in Dallas, Austin and Houston?)? I have heard that Barclays, CS and some small boutiques (simmons I think?) place very well into PE, but what about other BBs like GS, MS, DB, BAML as well as boutiques like Jefferies, Raymond James and Scotia Waterous?

There are lots of recent threads on this, I would recommend searching around.

"For all the tribulations in our lives, for all the troubles that remain in the world, the decline of violence is an accomplishment we can savor, and an impetus to cherish the forces of civilization and enlightenment that made it possible."

PE placement is highly dependent on YOU and your ability to perform well in your IB stint. With that said, the banks that historically have placed well in Houston are Barclays, CS, Citi, JPM, Evercore, TPH, and Simmons. That's not to say you can't get a good PE gig at other places.
