How focused is IB work?
I’m currently on a gap year interning in the finance department of a pretty big company. I’ve noticed a lot of people (myself included on some days) get away with doing very little. I would say a good 10% of the day is spent doing non-work related tasks. I could easily go a couple of days without ‘working’ and still get my tasks done.
My dad works in a similar company and claims the same.
Are the junior roles in IB similar, or do you have to be focused during the entire work day?
Pretty similar tbh. If you're not on a live deal you'll often have days that will be pretty slow.
Even on a live deal there's a ton of "hurry up and wait". Most days you'll spend hours scrambling on a deliverable only to have a few hours dead while your VP reviews and then it's back on once you get comments back.
