How hopeless is it?
What are the precise chances of still getting a London IB internship AC at any bank if I have not gotten any as at now (I submitted all applications between August & early–mid-november)? While I know miracles still happen (such as me converting an BB IB SA AC that I got late–January 2023; I had applied at the end of November 2022), I am wondering if it has become more exponentially more unlikely, given that the volume of applications is 4 times what it was in 2022/23 season. This entire post is a cope fest I know.
Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's not entirely hopeless, but the chances are indeed slimmer as the recruitment season progresses. Many banks in London operate on a rolling basis, meaning they review applications and fill spots as they go. By December, a significant portion of positions may already be filled, especially at top-tier banks like GS, JPM, and MS, which are known to move quickly and often wrap up early in the season (as early as September in some cases).
However, there are still opportunities. Some firms continue interviewing into December and even past January, as noted in previous WSO threads. Off-cycle internships or smaller banks might also still have openings. Additionally, luck and persistence play a role, as seen in your own experience of converting a late BB IB SA AC in January 2023.
To maximize your chances: 1. Keep an eye on off-cycle internship opportunities. 2. Follow up with banks where your application is still under review. 3. Consider networking to gain insights or updates on potential openings. 4. Stay prepared for any last-minute interviews or assessment centers.
While the odds may be lower, it's not over until the recruitment season officially ends. Keep pushing!
