How important is networking for IB recruiting in London?

Hey everyone,

I am an incoming first year student after the summer at a local target school for Stockholm IB in the nordics. It would probably be considered a semi-target for London IB recruiting.

My goal is to get into IB in London after I graduate and like most of you probably have done at one point or another I’ve watched all the basic how to get into banking videos on YT. But I feel like they’re all very US centric. They’re saying networking is considered pivotal to even land an interview. I’m curious how important networking is for London IB recruiting from those of you who have or are currently going through the process from a European perspective.

Thank you in advance!

/H

Not really necessary in London (imo) unless you're aiming for a boutique or EB bank. Landed plenty of offers without having attended a single one. Yes, doesn't mean you should copy me - but isn't absolutely necessary. I'm sure getting your name recognized by some analyst & recruiters will of course help your case, but it isn't end all for all. The networking culture is more North American than UK.

You can get some fast tracks though through recruitment processes though, I know DB in particular done that for me for attending one of their events.

Does anyone know the importance of networking as a non-target? I am a UK dual citizen but I go to a North American school so have zero OCR or school name recognition and wondering if I can make up for it with networking (have a lot of alum who lateraled to the UK)
