How many interviews is too much?

At what point do you start turning down first round interviews?

Given that almost all the banks seem to have superdays on the same day (Friday 2/4 and 2/11), I'm assuming I won't be able to do second rounds with more than 3-4 places. So is it even worth signing up for all the 20+ first round interviews I've gotten?

Sign up for an interview for any position that you'd take. If you end up with a truly irresolvable conflict for superdays, you can always cancel one; you don't want to remove yourself from consideration for a position until you know how first-rounds shake out.

One of those lights, slightly brighter than the rest, will be my wingtip passing over.

You should not assume that you are going to be invited for 2nd round and you should not assume you will advance to the superday - it is by no means a given. Take as many 1st round interviews as you can get for positions that you want - if you have conflicts, then rank and go from there. If you happen to earn multiple superdays on the same day, then that is sweet news for you and you have a nice problem on your hands.

Dude, i had 15+ rounds with Goldman. Shut the fuck up. Stop Bitching. Go to your fucking interview and be a man about this!

STOP YOUR BITCHING AND REALIZE THAT NOT EVERY FUCKING FIRST ROUND MEANS YOU GET CALLED TO THE SUPERDAY!

College kids... go figure...

Receiving an invitation to interview from three major divisions of a top firm is somewhat unusual and, as such, it would not be unreasonable to judge that this opportunity should be exploited. That said, from a long term perspective, it is imperative that you decide for yourself which division is definitely for you. Not only that, it often helps to have a clear idea of what area of a particular division you would prefer.

Should you attend all three upcoming interviews, make sure you have a compelling answer for why you want a position in the particular division you are interviewing with at the time. You may find that the time needed to be adequately prepared for all three interviews is not worth it.

My overriding advice: have a shot at IBD, forget about the rest.

I have a question similar to that ... IS it even a good idea to apply for more than one division? Doesn't it just seem like you're trying to get your foot in the door??
