How much do BO & MO make?
I'm returning to my BB IBD next summer and I have some colleagues who are returning as well in operations or like corporate treasury and they were talking like they make bank. One of them was like yeah we make the same money and I was like huh? How much do like risk, treasury, and operations make at BBs? Is it really as much as they say?
Hourly might semi near each other but no way. Depending on location they prob making 60-70 all in. Career trajectory wise way worse too, NPV of future earning when adj for opportunities granted by IBD you guys are way diff all else equal.
Risk at BB generally has equal base but lower bonus at junior levels. Think the pay differential increases once you get to VP and above
Operations makes like $60k all in, idk about risk or treasury
I have heard some BO & MO roles can get up to $75K all in at some firms.
Which roles?
Technology new grad comp can be slightly lower/on-par with FO if in the right groups. For example an technology analyst sitting with a S&T desk or WM could have comparable bonus + base at new grad is 100k for technology new grads.
Majority of these guys will try to lateral to hedge funds or FAANG companies (facebook apple amazon netflix google)
Source: friend works in Technology at MS with Sales and Trading and makes around 130k-150k as a first year analyst
Technology analysts can make the same as an IBD analyst!?
Not all, a few do. Think developer/product manager Marcus GS / nee WM app for MS/ working with algorithms for S&T
Also Technology Comps are pretty high hence why TC can look high for the first few years (100k+35k sign on + bonus for Tech Analyst at GS new grad and 100k+10k+ bonus at MS)
BB in NY:
Corporate Treasury $80k
FP&A $70k
Ops $65k
Those are first year analyst base salaries. Bonuses would be a pretty negligible amount of that (2-7%)
What about BO quant roles like risk quant/model validation? Any insight on salaries?
