Typically need to Uber. Ideally with three other people so $200 round trip is really $50. Skyway is cheap and Trump Ferry point is reasonable if you can show you live in NYC. Also some dog track muni courses around.

Helps to have friends who are members of some of the private courses. There’s some world class golf around NYC.

As an analyst it is nearly impossible to get out and make time for a round of golf, much less Uber somewhere and practice consistently. There are some indoor golf clubs in midtown that have reasonable memberships that allow you to book a hitting bay and launch monitor to just practice or play some holes. Normally I have some time Saturday and Sunday morning to play 18 holes on the monitor. Obviously not as good as the real thing, but cheaper and much easier than trying to Uber out of the city to play. I still try to get on a real course once every few months though.

I joined a club in Westchester as an analyst. Definitely tight on the analyst salary (pre-bonus) but very worth it. I played college golf but now just play for fun with friends.

It’s great networking to join a club, but most importantly it’s done wonders for my mental health. Play every Saturday and usually tee off super early on Sundays and bring my laptop if something comes up. Trade off is worth it being able to get out of the city and be outside every weekend.

If I didn’t have a place to play then would do the usual brunch and blackout, which just gets boring after awhile.

Not sure how good you are but can discuss further if you drop a burner email. Dues aren’t cheap, but definitely manageable if you want a nice course with good membership and rounds under 4:30.

Mind PM'ing me with more details about where you joined, what it's like being younger side of the membership, etc? Currently an Assoc in discussions with a couple clubs in Westchester about joining for the start of 2023.

There are a few ways to do it without dropping a ton of money on an Uber. If you aren't that good (like me) / don't need the best course in the world, then Van Cortland park isn't a bad option. You just hop on the 1 train, ride it all the way to the last stop and you're there. If you want a little bit of an upgrade, you can take the Metro North to Pelham Bay -- It's a ~30 minute train ride from Grand Central, then a 10 minute Uber from the train stop,

Get a Zipcar membership, it will be many multiples cheaper - like $30-50 round trip. Ubers really don't want to take you out of the 5 boroughs as they won't be able to get a trip back into the city.

Also can look at some clubs in Westchester that are a 5 minute Uber from the train station. There's plenty around the Scarsdale/New Rochelle area. Agree with the other poster saying it's definitely an investment, but you can network with lots of finance people, have access to great dining and a pool, and of course get to play some great courses. I wouldn't do this as an IB analyst due to time constraints unless you are a huge golf nut and going to get out there every Saturday and Sunday morning.
