How should I prepare for networking?

I'm a part qualified accountant getting a bartending job in the city or canary wharf (I used to be a bartender at uni). What are some top tips or things I should look out for. Any type of information or tips would be useful to network with M&A Bankers or accountants.

IMO it's really not appropriate to use this as a networking gig unless someone is genuinely interested in talking to you and strikes up a conversation on their own. You're way better off finding people on LinkedIn and shooting your shot on there than basically cornering people at your bar.

You aren't getting into M&A as an accountant, so focus on accounting roles

Finance clients expect precision. Study these staples to ensure your speed and accuracy.

  • Old Fashioned: Use high-quality bourbon or rye. Stir with large ice cubes to control dilution.
  • Negroni: Balance equal parts gin, sweet vermouth, and Campari. Express orange oils over the glass.
  • Whiskies: Memorize the flavor profiles of Macallan, Lagavulin, and Balvenie. Know the difference between Speyside and Islay regions.
  • Wines: Focus on Bordeaux blends and heavy Italian reds like Barolo. Learn to describe vintage variations briefly.
