How should I prepare myself?

I'm very curious how as a sophomore student can prepare myself for the ibd application next year. I've decided to shift my graduation date one year earlier and had applied for one BB to see how it's like, got superday from them but eventually failed it. I've realized it's already late October and many applications are closing, and I'm planning to apply for a few more BB and boutiques, but my seniors had told me to not to do so because the banks do leave records and it will put me in a disadvantage next year. May I get some advices on what I should do and how should I prepare myself?
