How to best present myself??

As a summer intern joining the team, the first thing is usually being shown around the floor to all analyst/associates/directors/MD/partners by your "buddy".

I find this quite a akward situation, because its very hard to open up a conversation when you once have a few seconds to say hi. The senior guys usually say a quick "ohh...hi....my name is ..... welcome to the team and good luck"...then silence follows! What do you guys think would be a good way to leave a good impression??

This is probably the only time the interns will get to speak to everyone on the floor......

Best Response

If you're being introduced to one person at a time, then I imagine you could say, with confidence and with a smile, something like

"I'm looking forward to working with everyone, I heard many great things about X place and I'm really excited to hopefully make a positive difference here. I'm particularly interested in working with/on so and so because I heard so and so. You can expect only my best effort."

Something along those lines maybe, so that if you never see those senior guys at least try to make some sort of positive impression but make yourself stick out. Others will probably have better advice for you though, this is a subjective area really, everyone has a different opinion. Unless you're being shown to everyone at the same time, then you can modify that a little to highlight your excitement and your drive to learn as much as possible while positively affecting X place. Just prepare I guess and be professional while being humble.
