How to break into Financial Institutions PE?

What is the preferred career path to break into a FI-oriented Private Equity Fund such as JC Flowers, Corsair or Temasek?

My background is: MSc Finance graduate from a target Continental Europe BS with a BB SA in IB Risk, 1 year experience (off cycle) in the European Central Bank and starting FT in a PE fund that invests in financial institutions in emerging markets with AUM of around USD 200 million (a subsidiary of a quite popular European group with PE investments of > USD 1 billion).

Would you agree that AUM 200m -> MBA -> FI Megafund? Would you rather go for BB FIG if that was a choice? What about becoming a Central Banker / Banking Regulator and jump via a MBA?

I have already interned in the 200 million PE fund and the experience was amazing. Lots of deal exposure, travel and face-to-face meetings with targets and transaction advisers EVEN AS AN INTERN. Very interesting deals and increasing media coverage. In addition, my fund has co-invested with big players before.
