How to capitalize on top tier private equity internship?

First year MBA in Canada (not a top target for banking), will be doing a 4-month internship with top pension PE team (think CPPIB, OTPP), I heard good stories from people successfully building up contacts in PE and made into banking/equity research/buyside, could anyone give some advice on how to capitalize on a PE internship?

Thanks
