How to Classify PE role

Had a connection at a small PE firm and he connected me with two companies i’m working with this summer. Goal is IB and i’m preparing for the upcoming SA 28 recruiting cycle. The connection said i could title it as work under this PE firm. Should i put it under his firm and make sub sections under that or note the two experiences completely separately.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's how you should approach this:

If your connection at the PE firm is allowing you to classify the work under their firm, it’s generally acceptable to list it as one role under the PE firm and then create sub-bullets or sections to describe the work you did with the two companies. This approach can make your resume look cleaner and more cohesive, especially if the PE firm is more recognizable or prestigious than the two companies.

Here’s an example of how you could structure it:

Private Equity Intern
[Name of PE Firm] | Summer 2026
- Collaborated with [Company A] on [specific project or task].
- Assisted [Company B] with [specific project or task].
- Conducted [specific analysis or responsibility] across both engagements.

This format highlights your connection to the PE firm while still showcasing the work you did with the two companies. However, if the two companies are well-known or the work is significantly different, you could consider listing them separately under their respective names. Just ensure the formatting remains consistent and professional.
