A swift kick in the nuts should suffice You should probably just confront him and tell him to stop being a dbag. If it were me, I would probably just put him through a wall (but in this case he may be bigger than you so go for the knee caps).

You are going to come across assholes in every aspect of your life and generally the best way to deal with them is to ignore them and do what you gotta do

Just talked it out candidly with him. He probably knows hes being an asshole and continues to act that way if he sees you tolerating it.

Banking > VC > Tech PE; PM me if you would like any advice I'm happy to help

so I guess the best advice so far is to either 1) ignore and do what I gotta do or 2) talked it out candidly with him. Let's narrow it down to these two options (unless someone has an even better idea) and go from here? vote?

depends on how senior they are to you. if it's your MD, tough it out, if it's your associate then make him look like an idiot in front of his superiors or call him out on it.

i wasn't working well with an associate who wasn't even an asshole, just a micromanager, and I sorted it out with my staffer to not put me with him again. i said i wasn't working as effectively as i could with that person, i risked coming off as a whiner, but it has made the job way better. finish the task your on and hopefully move past it.

He wouldn't be acting the way he did if he didn't see an easy target

He prob is assured that he can take you over, thus being not cautious of his overt actions

You need to be confident of your abilities (and realize that - act like where you work and who your position is - if banker than act like a banker), and then be direct in his face, in discrete moments. (Don't make it a big thing) and then talk about something else. Obvious good to lead and be dominate and to even befriend him (read the book "The Prince" by Macavelli a classic that still applies today).

Times are bad - he prob feels that all will be canned, but not caring about you, why not you first. Protect ya neck (like Redman says) before it is unprotectible at T+3
