How to get a M&A/corporate finance Job

Dear all,

I met an alumni at my university Alumni Summit in Hong Kong. He is a managing director on M&A sector of a famous conglomerate, which is very strong on cross-border M&A.

I hold a bachelor degree from Australia, and have less than two years working experience in Shanghai and Beijing of a financial company as a management trainee, where I did some corporate finance works before. I am very very interested in M&A job and thus decide to focus my career path only on M&A/Corporate Finance/IBD.

Currently I'm studying a master degree of Finance in Hong Kong, and expect to graduate on June this year. I want to make connection with that M.D, but I don't know what kinds of knowledge or thoughts I should share with him so that I can get closer to him.

I'm studying financial modelling skills and reading recent M&A deals regularly, and now looking for any opportunities in order to work at M&A sector in Hong Kong.

Thank you all for any advice.
