How to leave an internship you just started?
Well so I started working yesterday for the this quantitative division of a research firm which sends its reports out to IB, PE, and VC firm. Today, I just got a call from a boutique IB firm, I interviewed for two weeks ago and I was extended an offer to join them for the summer.
What would be the best way to tell the research firm I will have to leave them after just one day?
I honestly feel really bad for the research firm because they gave me their company e-mail and gear for the summer..... So, what would make them less curious and sorry that I am leaving? Instead of them coming after me for leaving?
Leave them with a replacement. I'd love to have the research job. Hook madmoney15 up bro! But seriously, you always have to do whats best for you, the firm that hired you has fired many people before because they were looking out for themselves. And you should do likewise.
Tell a lie. I'm not joking. If your current firm treated you with respect, you don't want to come off as a total a-hole. Keep in mind your at an age where you need to build your connects. Does your current job not pay? Im assuming the new one does. If so, just simply let them know that you are broke and need a job that will allow you to pay your tuition and rent.
There is no particularly good way to tell them. Just man up and tell the truth. You know what you have to do. Its just not easy to do it.
If this was unpaid, I would not feel any pain...if paid...ouch...
just tell them the truth. if you can, refer them to replaceable candidates that you know.
If it offers any consolation, issuing an email address takes a total of 1 minute, tops.
