How to not come off as awkward during virtual internship
These virtual internships are throwing me for a loop. I've never had any trouble being sociable in the past (making friends at a new high school, joining my frat, joining clubs, etc.), but my virtual internship just feels uncomfortable. I was meeting some of my new coworkers recently over video chat, and the whole thing felt super forced and awkward. They all seem to have a good dynamic too, but I feel like I am coming off awkward and unnatural in all of our conversations. How can I break down that barrier to make these interactions feel more natural for everyone involved while meeting these people for limited amounts of time over video chat? It just seems hard to connect on a personal level through a screen. Anyone else feel this way too?

Yeah I feel you. It’s really weird. You can’t really make jokes or small/bro talk as easily as you could in the office. Since everything is via Zoom meetings it just feels formalized – like networking instead of just chatting in the office – and it’s super weird.
Unfortunately there’s probably not good tangible advice. Just try to take it easy and treat it like a real convo as best as you can
Being online just feels weird. When alums came back to my school, and we chatted over a coffee or something, it felt so much more natural. Usually we would end up shooting the shit and talking about sports or campus life. On these video calls, I feel like I'm at a middle school dance.
Just don't be weird and you will make it. Please understand that we will give you an auto offer as longa s you are not a weirdo or lest' say weirder than eeryone else.
I'm not gunning for a return offer (I'm a sophomore), but I think 10 weeks of awkward small talk would blow and I would like to have a positive experience.
Get used to it. That's business for you. Hi , how are you? Oh, you went to Turkey? How was it? Oh, I'm going with my kids next week. Ok, will watch out for the tigers.....
