how to postpone start-date

Hi All, I was fortunate to be offered a full time position in IB and I consider myself very lucky to get the opportunity. My start date is scheduled for May 1st and I finish my last exam on April 26th. Would it be possible to postpone my start date, and how should I go about doing that? Will I offend my future team and is a two week postponement too long? I will be moving across the country for this position.

bonobochimpI would just explain your situation to HR, I'm sure they'll be understanding. That being said, I'd make every possible effort to stay at a friend's place, hotel, etc. to cut down on the amount of time you're not there.

A summer stint is 10 weeks long - you'll be there for 20% less than your class. That's pretty huge.

It's a full time position....

Your graduation ceremony may or may not be important to you and your parents. However, if your boss/HR will not allow you to go to your own graduation, your company sucks.

Four days is barely enough time to consider housing options. Even if you already have that figured out, it takes a while to get all your furniture, move all your stuff, and figure out how to get to work. If I were you, I'd be up front and ask to start two weeks later.
