How to prepare for Healthcare & Life Sciences M&A

I'll be working at a smaller MM/larger boutique in Healthcare/Life Sciences. I come from a science background, but I was wondering what should I do to prepare for the internship. Should I take an online financial modeling course? Any books that I should read? The internship is set up in a way that the MD said I should be getting to work on a few deals in various stages any advice?

You WILL be working? If they know that you don't have a finance background, look around some vault guides and some free material- but it sounds like they expect to teach you material on the job.

Went from a poetry major to finance... funny how life works isn't it?

First off, no one will believe your favorite book is Applied Mergers and Acquisitions. If it really is... go out and read more. You'll be more interesting for it. Remember that these places are selective and can afford to hold out for the whole package, so be interesting.

Story from a Director at my bank (it's not an uncommon story, don't accuse me of plagiarizing): Asked a girl what her favorite book was. She answered with some finance textbook, "I'm sure you've heard of it." To which he responds, of course, but seriously, what's your favorite book? And all she can come up with is Where the Red Fern Grows or Catcher in the Rye or some like book she obviously hadn't touched since highschool.

A healthy interest such that you've read a textbook for fun is good and could lead to a conversation. Saying it's your favorite book will get you laughed at.
