How to Pronounce "Nomura"?
I have a networking trip coming up and we are going to Nomura, so I'd like to avoid looking like a dumbass. I've looked at their youtube channel, and I've found that 3 different people pronounced it 3 different ways:
Phonetically:
No-moura, like so: https://youtu.be/qMdXwsp2PHg?t=59
No-mora, like so:
So which way is correct, guys?
The third one is correct. At least that's how an analyst said it on the phone.
Ah, it's the Credit "Swiss" vs. Credit "Sweese" debate, i.e. whether to pronounce it like a native or use the accepted American English mangling of the word.
In any case, technically it's "No-mur-a" and not "No-myoo-ra" although even US MDs from their bank will pronounce it wrong. Just like "Credit Swiss"
Bonus points, "Barrr-clays" vs. "Bah-clees" (British)
No one actually cares how you say it. I’d focus on not looking like a dumbass on your market knowledge instead
no moolah
It’s like the Arabic sweet Namoura
It’s at the start of this video by Nomura’s official YouTube page:
