How to respond to an internship posting

The internship is for an SP500 finance company. I saw the ad online and they seemed rather ambiguous. It basically just said "strong applicants only" with little context as to their definition of strong, or any qualifications they desire.

So I'm wondering how to respond to them. They want us to send them an email, so I was thinking of maybe just doing a cover letter, explaining some of my strengths, and attaching my resume?

Send an e-mail with 2 attachments: 1) Cover Letter 2) Resume

Don't tell your story in the e-mail; that's what a cover letter is for. I doubt HR would read you e-mail. In the content of the e-mail, just put something like:

"To whom it may concern, I am applying for ______, which I saw on ______. I have attached my resume & cover letter for your reference. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions."

Something along those lines.
