How to show Quantitative Skills?
I am a junior phil/socio/english/history major who intend to minor in economics. I have a MM and Boutique IB experience. I learnt financial modeling and valuation through online courses like BIWS and have near to perfect/high SAT Math, SAT Math I & II scores. Other than that I can't think of anything else that could help me sell my quant skills.
Any thoughts if this is convincing or you don't buy this. What should I do in this situation?
English major to quant would be an interesting jump.
try some Business Analytics courses, maybe even a minor in BA
Recruiting is in a few weeks/months.
bump
are you gunning for banking? that's plenty quant enough for banking.
I am gunning for banking.
Anymore responses?
sounds solid. Take a math class or two to prove you are good with numbers.
is actuarial tests a solid proof of quantitative skills ? (Originally Posted: 09/04/2016)
What i have now: - bachelor in economics, more focused on macroeconomics - CFA Charter - 2nd year associate, 4 years experience in FX and rates sales & trading (1yr trading, 3yr sales, across 3 locations in Greater China, with 3 different banks) - some programming skill (should be good enough for non-quant or it ppl).
what i wanna do: - plan to do a MBA in either US - move into big fixed income buy side firm in either Asia or US
my questions is: - altho i got some coding experience, but i lack quantitative finance knowledge, like stochastic calculus and i only know the very basics about option pricing. What can I do now to enhance my quantitative background? what quantitative know how is needed in buy side, for a research analyst or portfolio manager?
Is taking actuarial tests (ASA program offered by SOA) a good idea?
Thanks in advance
Thanks, Greg
SOA exam is a painful way to prove your quantitative skills. It's not well recognized outside the insurance industry.
Thanks. It's very true, i never see anyone of my colleagues earned FSA or ASA. But i do like their curriculum. (well, just P, FM and MFE, esp. MFE. C and MLC are not that relevant to my work.
