How to tell my current job I’m lateraling

I’m leaving to go to a different bank - been at my current one for about 2 years now. Lateraling because the new opportunity was objectively better (sexier group / pay / prestige etc etc) but obviously cannot say that when talking to my group head.

Any recommendations from people who have done this before? Would love some help here - some people at my current firm are truly amazing and folks I want to be in touch with as the years go on. How does one go about this?

Investment Banking Short Resume Review / Recap

“Was very helpful; he helped with a current application I had and walked through the platform with me and assisted me in reaching out to some colleagues within the company to learn from their past experiences and once we found a problem with the website he gave me actionable takeaways to message the company and work on the data he gave me and explain to the company and to keep him updated.”

Investment Banking Mock Coffee Chat

“I had a great conversation with Jorge and genuinely appreciated his willingness to share his experience and insights. His career journey, from an engineering background into investment banking and subsequently investing, was particularly interesting and highly relevant to my own career aspirations. He provided thoughtful perspectives on breaking into investment banking in London, navigating the transition from the sell-side to the buy-side, and developing the skills and judgement required to become a successful investor. I particularly valued his emphasis on the importance of understanding the industries and businesses behind financial transactions: strong industry knowledge is essential not only to assess companies and investment opportunities more effectively, but also to become a more well-rounded and insightful finance professional. I also appreciated the openness of his answers, which reflected his own professional experience. The conversation was helpful and engaging.”
