HR follow up?

Here's the run down. I met this recruiter at a job fair, he asked me to send him an electronic one, so I did that. It's been a week and I have yet to hear back from the guy, so do you think it's a good idea to send a short note asking whether he has received my application? I kinda know he has, because I got an automated response saying "Out of my office at the moment, etc." But would asking for a "confirmation" piss the guy off or is this something within reason?
yea, definitely wait 2 weeks, and he is out of the office as well.
This is probably the first time I've heard a guy being a recruiter.
