There's no definitive answer as it is dependent on a multitude of variables. After submitting an application I've heard back in as little as a day, but as long as six months.
From my experience, small firms usually take between a couple of hours to a couple of weeks to respond. Usually larger firms will take longer because they have more applications to consider. Large firms usually take at least a month to respond. I had one interview for a niche type of job at a large firm that took them about three months to respond, and the interview was scheduled about two months in advance.
