HR told me to wait after final round

Interviewing with a 7 people Boutique for a lateral position. I had a first and second round via teams before being invited to the Assessment center (case study + getting to know the team). After the assessment day I was invited to talk to the MD who not available that day.

After talking to the MD (just personal things) I didn't hear back for 2 days after which I contacted the person responsible for recruiting again. They told me they will get back to me but are busy right now with a sudden client request. It has been almost a week since the MD conversation  (and 2 after the assessment day !) And haven't heard back yet

That's a small firm for you man. Even in my larger company (500 employees or so) the team gets side tracked on projects and offers get pushed out a week or so as it just isn't that pressing compared to deadline work. My money is on: The hiring manager is the MD but the one recruiting for the position is A VP or Director, they like you and have sent an offer through HR for MD approval and he keeps forgetting to look at it. Happens all the time.

Makes most sense, I talked to the MD who opened the meeting with "I heard some good things about you already but please walk me through your CV", he then proceeded to ask me my potential starting date and current notice period. During the meeting he also got a call from the director and told him that he is in a meeting with me (as in he said my first name). Afterwards he thanked me for my time and told me it was a good conversation and he will talk to the person in charge of hiring (director).

I killed every step of the hiring process but am still a bit nervous due to the prestige of the company (e.g. robey zaoui etc.) I also know that one of my old bosses (works at a Top BB) is recruiting for the same role (although MD mentioned they are open to hiring two, one more senior and someone more junior)
