Hypothetical- You just found out a family friend used to be a HF partner

Lets say you are trying to break in and are pretty open to a lot of different positions/divisions in IB and finance overall . You also just found out that a family friend of yours recently left a pretty prominent HF a couple years ago but still has strong connections.

That being said, what types of firms and connections would you say the ex-partner would have? I would assume its all across the board but mainly more of the AM, PWM,and investing side of IB's?

Just curious.

Can't really assume anything with such little information. Depending on the fund and what his role was within it, he may have a wide range of contacts that likely extends outside finance. E.g. Tech, Aerospace, etc. On the other side of the equation some of the quant guys I know hardly talk to anyone in finance and prefer people in academia. Granted none of them are partners at a major fund, you can see the point I'm trying to make: Hypothetical questions are a waste of time.
