I already googled it. Can you help with spreading comps?

Save your time if you’re gonna say go google it and self learn. I did. I just wanna know what analysts/ associates wanna expect from interns when they tell them these are few companies and I want you to spread comps. I am doing a virtual internship and any guidance or help is greatly appreciated from former interns or full timers if you can answer some of these questions.

  • if my staffer didn’t specify what metrics or ratios to include, what are the main or most important ones I should include? valuation ratios, solvency & credit, profitability, leverage, what else?

  • any preference on the source of information? CapIQ, Bloomberg, SEC?

  • if I pull a ratio from a source above, should I enter it as a formula with the numbers or hardcord the ratio?

  • any tips on formatting in excel? table visualization is greatly appreciated.

  • should include comments or text at all? should I use any outside research (i.e ER)?

I could be wrong, but your bank likely already has an Excel template with formulas and a layout tab to export to PPT / PDF. Poke around the file, see how the formulas work and everything links together, then figure out what inputs you need to change for your specific companies.

Look at prior pitches to find this file or ask your analyst / associate where to find it if you can't. I think it's fair to ask all these questions if you recently started and haven't done this exercise before, but better to do it right after receiving the task rather than waiting several hours.
