I am afraid of not passing the background checking because of the involvement of my brother and my uncle in a drug cartel.
Hello,
I am a Mexican American attending a target school in the US (Yale/Princeton/Penn/Dartmouth) and looking for a career in IB. I am going to start applying for SA programmes next year. I have been told that Investment Banks conduct a very comprehensive background checking to all candidates before extending an offer.
Although I have a clean record, some people in my family in Mexico can't say the same. My older brother and my uncle are members of a renown cartel in Mexico. Actually, my uncle is wanted by the DEA and the FBI, while my brother is wanted by the Mexican Federals, and he has been in jail several times for drugs smuggling.
As I said before, my record is completely clean, my parents made a huge effort to keep me away from this world, but I am afraid this could appear in my background check and banks could hesitate to hire me for this.
The only problem I see here is if they did dodgy stuff under your name. Otherwise don’t see why a (unofficial) criminal record of a family member would affect you. Also don’t think they count as immediate family in a legal sense.
I can guess where the money for your college comes from hahahahah.
I don't know if this can affect your background check, but if you want my piece of advise, you should join your uncle. Pablo Escobar and Chapo made much more cash than all Goldman MD's together.
Damn man! What a sick story to tell for the “tell me about yourself question”.
Bankers will immediately extend you an offer if you can get them white powder cheaper.
You're fine - it's not like an FBI background check or anything. The background check is more so just looking for you are who say you are and have you done anything illegal yourself. They won't look at your family.
I had a friend go through a background check for the CIA or NSA or something, and they polygraphed him and asked him if he'd ever smoked weed at any point in his life.
oh yeah they do that at basically any bank too
Congrats on Dartmouth! But if there haven't been problems for now, I don't foresee your family background being an issue during recruiting. Makes for a great "tell me about yourself" story though
It's probably more likely Penn, why would he list Penn if not Wharton, and Penn falls behind YPD in finance recruiting regardless
Well hey, sounds like you enjoyed your time at Dartmouth :)
Pm me.
Will give offer for nose beers
Only one man can save you now
Bruh why don't you just join the cartel, better wlb and pay
But poor exit opps
Tell me a single exit opportunity/industry/ company that pays more than cartels. Top HF managers or tech CEOs don’t make half of what drug Lords do.
you dont need exit opps, you can retire after two years, especially if family is at the top
WallStreetOasis.com Hi Patrick
I know JPM would take someone with your experience in a heartbeat. 🚢 ❄️
