Seems like it's not all bad news. Although you might have thought i-banking was totally effed recently, you might want to check out this Clusterstock find in the Winston Salem Journal. Looks like the 'advising banks on how to buy each other' sector is really hitting it big. I guess that's not really a sustainable sector, but still, you gotta find opportunities where they lie.

yeah i would love to have an offer in FIG right now. one of the few areas of banking that seems secure and poised to see tons of deal flow over the next 2-3 years.
Right now, it's better to be a FICC trader than anything else. Actually FI is screwed but commodities and currencies are doing well because of the volatility. There's a good article on the wall street journal about this.
They're still fire people in FIG, trust me. Though admittedly much less.
