IB Programs open for the summer

Hi guys,

I am a first year student in a top US MBA (H/S/W). I would love to work in IB in London and, therefore, I wanted to know:

1) When do the top IB summer program applications open?

2) My background has been in the intersection of consulting and FS, however, I never did any IB prep. What do you recommend to prep? (I assume WSO resources, but can anyone do a quick walk-through of the key things?)

I really appreciate the help!

Ahoy there, future master of the universe! As a first-year student at a top MBA program, you're already swinging through the right vines. Let's tackle your questions:

1) When do the top IB summer program applications open?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, the timeline for top IB summer program applications can vary, but historically, here's a rough guide for London:

  • Goldman Sachs: Applications have typically opened in July, with rolling reviews starting in mid-September.
  • J.P. Morgan: In the past, applications have opened around July with deadlines in late September.
  • Credit Suisse: They've opened applications around the same time as others, with no specific closing dates indicated, but a safe bet would be around November/December.
  • Barclays, BAML, Citi: These firms have also opened their applications in the summer months, with various deadlines, often in November or December.

Remember, these dates can change year to year, so it's best to swing by the banks' career pages or reach out to your school's career services for the most current information.

2) For IB prep, here's a quick walkthrough of key WSO resources:

  • Networking Guide: Start building relationships with alumni and professionals in the industry.
  • Investment Banking Prep: Get familiar with the technical aspects of the job.
  • Financial Modeling Courses: These will help you understand the nitty-gritty of Excel modeling, valuations, and more.
  • Interview Prep Courses: Practice makes perfect, especially with the 7,548 questions across 469 IBs that WSO offers.
  • Private Equity Interview Course: Even if you're aiming for IB, understanding PE can give you an edge.

Remember, the key is to understand the financial modeling and valuation techniques that are the bread and butter of IB. Also, don't forget to polish your behavioral interview skills; they're just as important as the technical ones.

Keep swinging through those financial jungles, and you'll land that IB summer gig in no time! If you need more detailed guidance, just holler!
