IB TikTok-ers make me question my decision to work in finance

I absolutely cannot stand these people—their posts are incredibly cringeworthy. Just saw one that said “None of the people on this plane even know what EBITDA is.”

Do these people exist at real banks? I have trouble believing their coworkers are cool with them filming their work all day.

It is not uncommon to have professionals who believe they are "better than anyone else".
This could happen in big law, medicine, finance, corporate management, ..

That kind of behavior often disappears after they had a few missteps or other personal issues over time.

And arrogance doesn't help in life at all. One day these folks will say the wrong thing to the wrong guy...

No, most of these are definitely serious and completely insufferable -- see @jblitzz @buysidesteph and some of the posts on @overheardonwallstreet

You'll hate but they're both very accomplished

Jblitzz is one of the youngest VPs there and is one of the fastest growing Spotify artists and most well known surfers in finance

Buysidesteph is in a good spot. Everyone was giving up on Coinbase but they're back on the upswing and corp dev at those companies will open up paths anywhere in tech or fintech

Ok the “EBITDA on the plane” post was definitely satire. But yes for sure others are not. Can you blame them though? It’s clear that they post because of either two reasons

  1. They are unhappy with their jobs and are attempting to leverage their slightly better standing in society to make a social media profile that could possibly elevate them out of IB
  1. They find solace in the attention they get from these posts and that’s what’s keeping them going

Can you blame them?

Funnily, making IB videos on Tik Tok could net you more cash than working in IB. People are after the money and the fame and the vanity. Tik-Tok-er being like "I adviced on a billion-dollar-deal blah blah blah", then more attention, more followers, more $$$$$ coming your way. All IB-ers should start doing it
