IB to Hotel/Real Estate Development...?

IB ---> Hotel/Real Estate Development

Has anyone ever heard of this path? I know it's not typical but I'm currently in banking and hotel development has always been a huge interest of mine.

Anyone have any suggestions for how I could move about or know any strong firms to start?

If anyone has followed this path, would you let me know so I can PM you? Any help appreciated.

Don't know, I assume opportunities come from relationships , but I would LOVE to hear a public discussion here on the hotel development industry as I, like you, find it to be fascinating.

Getting any loans for developments(whether residential or CRE) is very tough in this climate. You're going to need high liquidity, long standing relationship with the bank, and a very healthy balance sheet. Not very many banks lending for this sort of thing right now. Long term, I think it just takes learning the industry and building relationships.
