IB vs. M7 (2+2)
Curious to hear your thoughts. Starting FT at a BB soon. Would it be better to stick the course and see the opportunities that unfold or look at trying to get into an M7, 2+2 program? Do you think eventually the exit opportunities would be the same?
I’m not sure I understand the benefit of 2+2 outside of maybe some niche entrepreneurial applications. If you go to a career placement summary for any m7 program, are there any opportunities that call out to you for which you think an MBA would be necessary?
Even if you want to change careers, why not try that first just through networking before you waste time on GMAT and applications. To be honest, if you do all of that networking and find out that an mba IS necessary, you’ll probably write a more compelling application essay.
Thank you for this. I don’t really think an MBA would be necessary but I did hear in terms of getting better titles (I.e. VP on bayside roles) would be easier to obtain with it.
Well you should probably get onto the buyside first regardless, then do mba if interested.
But would you say it’s necessary for career progression on the buy side?
It’s not needed and if you’re an IB 2+2, I don’t see why any firm would hire you over an IB 2+2+2 profile with PE experience… especially as a VP.
