Hi, I am a freshman looking for some advice. I want to start a research project this semester and into this summer, something long and insightful. Can anyone give me some advice on some interesting topics on equities/companies or anything finance related I can research or analyze that will be excellent for finding an internship in IB next summer.

effect that change in accounting rules (regulations) have on the capital markets decisions made by bankers/traders/etc.
if the sole goal for this is to get into IB i would ditch that idea and use the time to network + read through hull doing all the exercises (for S&T)

I`m planning to do a research in finance and yet to decide on a topic. If you have any ideas on current/latest/hot/provocative topics for research or any new products/services/financial instruments (such as derivatives, swaps, etc) or new techniques kindly let me know about the topic and if possible where i can get the necessary resources.
