If I've always wanted to work in banking, can I work long-term in IB if I start in MBB?
I go to a top school in HYPSM where IB recruiting isn't very prevalent, so I never applied for IB internships. However, I landed an MBB offer out of undergrad. I've always been interested in the IB lifestyle: working long hours, the extravagance on Wall Street, meeting important people, getting huge bonuses and paid a lot. I checked pay for associates/VPs at EBs and it's more than double the MBB pay at the same level. Even PE/VC, which is my current career plan, is less than EBs, and doesn't come with the same lifestyle, since most PE firms are in random cities, unless it's a megafund. So is it possible to go to IB eventually even if I start in MBB? Would this happen at the analyst level (ie lateral <2 years in) or should I stick it out in MBB and get an MBA before reconsidering? Apologies if my impression about IB is completely warped but these are my honest thoughts and if I had the chance to redo college, I would 100% have done IB recruiting.
