if one has an offer from a competitor, can that be leveraged for an internal transfer?

Consider the following scenario -

I am finishing my first year in S&T at a BB and trying to transfer into IBD. Let's say i receive an IBD offer from a competing BB....could that be used as a bargaining chip to start a conversation with HR/my manager about an internal transfer to IBD? bonus season just concluded, and I am anticipating several analyst positions to open up as 1st/2nd years leave...i dont want to bring up the internal transfer conversation just yet because 1) i dont know how receptive senior people on my desk would be, considering i am the ONLY analyst, and we are severely understaffed, and 2) i don't have an offer to fall back on just yet

what do you guys think - could using an external offer as a bargaining chip screw me both ways by getting me dinged both places?
