If you're stranded in the middle of the ocean on a life raft what would be three things you would wish to have?
What are interviewers trying to figure out about you when they ask this question? And what answers do they want to hear?
Trick question, you only need two things: Laptop w/ excel & ppt Internet connection to send work to NYC
More realistically, it's probably just to get a feel for a) how you think on your feet, b) your personality, and c) your problem-solving abilities. To be fair, I've never been asked this question.

1 a GPS unit with a full battery. 2 a satellite phone with a full battery. 3 a martini, shaken not stirred.

1) Satellite phone (GPS coordinates can be pulled from it) w/full battery 2) Bottle of Rum
3) Pineapple
GPS, Satellite Phone, International flight log (use reflective surface of phone to signal planes)
An EPIRB, Desalinator and MREs
Forget these "full batteries" for phones and GPS, solar or crank powered baby,... also it's interesting none of you guys wanted protection from the elements nor an outboard engine.
Generally a life raft in modern times has shelter built into it, and since it is entirely inflated with no rigid structure it can not support a motor and a fuel source. I would much rather be found quickly than try and find my way to a shoreline somewhere.
