I'm a fucking moron

I work at a IB firm in NC. A man said he went to Penn and I immediately thought he meant Pennstate, and I said I actually knew someone from penn. He asked me what his name was and at that immediate moment I froze because I realized he went to UPENN not PENNSTATE. I fuck up and I make out a fake name because I didn't want him to think that I confused the two (Which I absolutely did) and he knew that it was shit. He didn't say anything but it was fucking obvious and I'm a moron and oh my god why did I do that

He's in the group I really want, and I just got staffed with him on a job but I feel like an idiot and I'm so embarassed and I didn't tell him that I confused the two and I made the situation worse. I need advice ASAP

DUDE IM NOT OKAY I DONT KNOW HOW IT HAPPENED I FROZE UP

I WANT TO DIE

Idk if this will make you feel better, but in one of my SDs, the interviewer told me that he went to Boston University. At the end, I went ahead and said, “That’s great that you went to Boston College!” And he stared at me for 3 seconds and then said, “No, it’s Boston University, not the college. We are rivals.” At that point, I just laughed pretty hard and apologized. He was chill af as well. Don’t worry, the dude should have elaborated on the name of the school more.
