I’m annoyed with my situation

All,

I’m having some issues dealing with constant politics at work. I have a team that loves to argue about bullshit that doesn’t help us make money at all. Our boss consistently wants to chat with us at work and constantly argues about off topic weird stuff and it’s almost impossible to make a comment on anything. It’s kinda weird because he will ask us what we think but when we have a differing opinion, he will start arguing. It’s very clear none of us actually want to overrule him or undermine him but we just want to give honest opinions (on deals and and overall sector views). Additionally, since I’m a junior person as well as some others on the team, we actually don’t care all that much about being right and actually want to get told what to do. Has anyone come across this situation? I would much rather have an MD just give comments and tell me what to do rather than my current situation where my boss constantly argues with me for nonsense that doesn’t help us get business done. This just seems petty and harms junior productivity…

At my past firm, the senior people just overruled junior opinions which I think is more effective than forcing a junior person to agree with you when they just honestly don’t agree.
