I'm not sure which social event to attend..

Hello,

So this IB is having networking events in early December for 2012 summer analyst positions. Currently I have contacts in two of their offices, and I was just told that the event will be taking place on the same day for both offices.

I know it's not possible to make everyone happy, but I want to increase my chance of getting an offer from both offices.

Option A)

-PRO: It's a general shop. I feel like if I work here, it would help me to decide which sector to specialize in. I know couple analysts / associates here.

-CON: I hate the city. A LOT. (My parents live here / I went high school here)

Option B)

-PRO: I know couple of VPs here- I've been keeping in contact with them since summer and they actually remembered me at the info session. I don't hate the city.

-CON: They specialize in specific industry that I'm not sure if I would be good at. If they ask me specific questions like, "oh so why _____ industry/sector?", I would have to make some stuff up. I also hear that it is a sweatshop (I don't have any problems with that, but I think the interviews might be harder than the other office).

So what would you do if you were in this situation? Also, what should I tell my contacts in the office that I choose not to attend?

Any thoughts??? Thanks guys!
