Importance of Types of Internships?
Something I've always been curious about: I understand that if you are trying to enter IBD, the best thing to have on your resume is demonstrated finance internships/experience.
However, what if you have 3-4 experiences at business firms, in either a strategy/consulting/management role instead? I've always knew I've wanted business, but haven't done anything specifically finance related. Of course, I plan on obtaining a summer internship in finance before I begin my MSF, but I'm wondering if I'll lose my competitiveness by having a more "general business" focus throughout college?
You won't lose your competitiveness, you'll just have a different set of challenges. Rather than explaining why they should choose you over the other 50 finance-bred kids, you have to demonstrate that you're genuinely interested in and dedicated to finance, without having the background to point to
Thanks MFFL. I'm guessing that carries over to MSF. Aside from the summer internship with finance, I also plan on getting on the board of the finance club. Any other ways to demonstrate interest?
